YouTube Homepage Experiments

Some have already seen it, but YouTube appears to be allowing everyone a chance to look at the new homepage design they have been working on.  More information can be found on the official blog post.

In case anyone was wondering, I chose to not use it at the moment.

YouTube Annotations Updates

Looks like more updates are coming from YouTube today, this time they have announced updates to Annotations.

Longer Videos for (Almost) Everyone

Yesterday, a bunch of YouTube users seemed to discover that the 'Partner Settings' tab was appearing in their account settings.  The upload page said that videos over 15 minutes were possible.  Some users even saw the message implying that they could enable revenue sharing for all videos.  Did everyone become a Partner?  Not quite...

YouTube Taking Suggestion Features from Partners Again

Back in March, YouTube created a feedback form through Google Moderator to take new feature suggestions from YouTube Partners.  They've decided to do this again, and you can read more about it here.

I don't know if there is any kind of restriction that only allows YouTube Partners to submit features or to vote on them.  If there is, feel free to pass your idea on to me and I can consider posting it.  The features are generally Partner related, so if there's something you think needs to be fixed regarding the program (or the features in it), this can be an opportunity to let YouTube know.

YouTube Topics on Search

YouTube is trying something new with it's search called, "YouTube Topics on Search".  They also want to see how well you can use it.

YouTube Announces Over 35 Hours of Video Uploaded Every Minute

Earlier this year, YouTube announced that 24 hours of video was uploaded to the site every minute.  YouTube is now reporting that the number has increased to approximately 35 hours.

You can read the full YouTube Blog entry here.

Looking for a clearing

Seems there have been several reported issues involving newly-uploaded videos.  Something tells me that I probably won't run into these issues, but I'd rather play it safe and wait it out a bit longer.

Guess you can learn something new...

From reading the most recent YouTube Blog Entry...  Not sure if I'll actually use the tip highlighted in the entry, but it does seem like it could be of some use to anyone wanting to improve a video's search tags.  Actually, I think I already knew that insight kept track of search keywords people use to find a video, but I didn't think of using those results as additional search tags.

Working on new video 'series'

Today, I just completed a video to introduce a new series of videos I will be working on.  It will somewhat revisit some old videos of mine, one in particular being the very first video where I mentioned the YouTube Partner Program.

It's going to be my first 'real' experience editing a 'high definition' video, though it really isn't much different from what I've done in the past with my earlier version of Sony Vegas.

Hopefully Upgrading to HD (sort of)

I just picked up some new video editing software, and it seems like it is able to create videos in 720p for YouTube.  It can probably handle 1080p, but until more YouTube users get faster computers and internet connections, I think 720p is more than efficient.

YouTube's Recent Release Notes (Sept 30th)

The YouTube blog has posted it's most recent feature release notes.  Read it here.  (If you would rather get the short version, click the 'More' link below...)

The short of the update: more languages supported, more countries added to the Partner Program, updates to the video editor (which I can't use on my computer), Autoshare to MySpace (kind of late, isn't it?), filtering update to the 'Charts' page, improved screen reader accessibility (for visually impaired users), 'Shows' available in France, new 'HD' and 'CC' badges on search results, an 'Add to Playlist' button on video thumbnails in search results, and finally, the 'grayed out' videos which have been previously watched.

Anyway, I was going to mention this as a YouTube bulletin, but I couldn't post it for some reason.  Guess I need to find out what that's about...

The Demand of Higher Quality

YouTube's definition of 'High Quality' has changed since it first started giving a 'High Quality' option on it's videos.  Or at least I thought it did.

pelord.sonicretro.org Update

Finally got around to updating pelord.sonicretro.org (the home of the original YouTube Rant Articles) with recent information.  It now links here, as well.

Not really much else to say right now, but I'm glad I was able to finally update the page since it's been over a year since the last update.

YouTube and its (Potential) Live Streaming Platform

Just a couple of weeks ago, YouTube ran a trial of a Live Streaming platform.  While YouTube has streamed live events in the past, they gave some larger Partners the opportunity to test out the feature for the first time.  Although the trial is over, YouTube is listening to feedback on the feature, and may possibly open the feature to a wider group of users (starting with Partners, most likely) in the future.

Just a quick FYI...

To anyone new to my thoughts or opinions on YouTube, this will probably be news to you, but those people who have read my articles, watched my videos, or heard my discussion on Blog Talk Radio last year, you know the things I have said regarding YouTube's Partner Program.

Launching The YouTurbia Blog

For those of you who read my YouTube Rant Articles from my website, you may remember the name, YouTurbia.  Instead of writing a few occasional articles on my site, I've decided to create a blog to continue the series.

This blog will mostly follow YouTube related news, but I may throw in a few other random things as well.  There will definitely be many things for me to say in the near future.

YouTurbia... it's kind of like... Suburbia...
